Lucky Gus - Official Pet Therapist - continued

Animal Assistance League contacted Modjeska Ranch Rescue regarding Gus. Immediately MRR took little Gus under their care. He was carefully monitored and nurtured. He received further medical treatment and therapy to help strengthen his little body. For three months he remained at the ranch … gaining weight, getting medical treatment, and receiving lots of love.

At MRR Gus learned how to adapt to his situation. In addition, he discovered ways to compensate for his weaknesses by creating a “Gus” way of doing things. Slowly his health improved.

Gus won the hearts of everyone around him due to his loving spirit and desire to live. Little Gus did not escape all the affects of distemper. There was neurological damage … a pathway from his brain to his body had a glitch and the result was a lame front leg and a constant twitch.

At the age of five months Gus was declared a special needs puppy who was ready to move onward to a new home. This home had to be with people who could look beyond his disabilities and see his spirit, joy, loyalty, determination and desire to live his life to the fullest.

That special home was found with Linda Anderson and Anaheim Health Care Center.
When they learned that little Gus needed a special home, they knew they were ones who could give him the love, hugs, patience, understanding and support. It became official – the adoption was approved.

Gus is now surrounded by the love of many new “family” members who know what it means to face a physical challenge. Each day Gus begins his day at Anaheim Health Care Center by greeting dozens and dozens of people. After the morning greeting time he romps through the hallways peering into doorways. He is quickly invited into meetings or activities or finds someone to play with him. He has multiple choices of humans for his play needs: residents, staff, visitors, doctors, therapists, nurses… even administrative personnel.
